Drivers Holding a Class 7 Licence

Please note: Drivers in the Graduated Licencing Program (GLP) must have automotive driver training experience before taking the Learn to Ride Course.

Steps to aquiring your Class 8 Motorcycle Licence:

- Pass a vision and medical screening
- Pass the Motorcycle Knowledge Test

You can pick up the RoadSense for Riders guide at an ICBC driver licencing office. Read and study the book. You can take the Motorcycle Knowledge Test at any of the ICBC driver licencing offices.
When you have passed this test, you will be issued a Class 8 Learner's Licence (8L).

You will have the following restrictions on your Class 8L licence:

- Qualified supervisor (riding within sight of a qualified, adult supervisor who is at least 25 years old and holds a valid Class 6 licence)
- Restricted speeds (60km/h)
- No passengers
- Restricted riding hours (daylight only)
- Restricted highways (Mainland area only)
- Display "L" sign
** The above restrictions do not apply when you are being instructed by a licenced Driver Trainig School
- Zero blood alcohol content
- Stiff penalties

Your next step is to take the Motorcycle Skills Assessment. This will be done during your course. Your learner's licence will show a 30 day waiting period, this is reduced to 14 days if you are taking the New Rider Course with us.
When you have passed the Assessment, you will be issued paperwork to submit to ICBC. You will be re-issued a Class 8L licence with the following restrictions removed:
- You will be able to ride without a supervisor from sunrise to sunset
- Travel at speeds over 60 km/h
- Travel on highways that were previously restricted

Your next step after the course is to take your Class 8 Road Test with ICBC. This can be done 12 months after aquiring your first Class 8L licence. There will be a date printed at the bottom of your learner's licence.
When you pass your Class 8 Road Test and have held your licence for at least 24 months without penalties, you may take your Class 6 Road Test. When you pass your Class 6 Road Test, Class 6 will be added to your driver's licence.

If you need more information about acquiring your Motorcycle licence, don't hesitate to contact our office or you can go to ICBC's website at ICBC
